Bay Area Rising is a powerful feminist network of artists, spiritual leaders, and activists dedicated to ending violence against women and girls, that was formed in 2012 as a call to action from One Billion Rising, based on the staggering statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at 7 billion, this adds up to more than ONE BILLION women and girls.

Bay Area Rising events catalyze community to inspire, heal, increase awareness, educate, and raise funds for front-line service organizations that serve women and girls. This has included: IDEX, 1000 Mothers to Prevent Violence, the American Indian Child Resource Center, Himalayan Sisterhood. And in 2016, they are focusing on Black Lives Matter, and several local groups that empower girls.

“We’ve created a new tradition for Valentine’s Day … one that’s not entirely about consumerism but a safe space to be with other women, other creative kindred spirits … Bay Area Rising is a place to be with our joy! ”

SKIP THE NEEDLE If Sly Stone, Jimi Hendrix, Chrissie Hynde and Chaka cloned a baby, Skip the Needle would be the result. Born from group of friends, Shelley Doty, Kofy Brown, Katie Colpitts and Vicki Randle (all of whom are veterans of multiple bands, tours, recording, and jamming together), Skip the Needle immediately started creating original music and had so much fun, they decided to go for it. Reckless, eclectic, fearless, Skip the Needle brings a mix of soul, rock, funk, vocal harmonies and wild instrumental explorations.
